…it felt good singing to an audience who enjoyed what we did.
My dad was a great singer and none of my siblings or myself were fortunate enough to have inherited his beautiful singing voice. This has not stopped me loving to sing, and when I heard about The Compass Choir, I thought I would give it a go. I was nervous, but knew I wouldn’t be asked to sing solo. I must admit that it took a few weeks to get used to the songs and harmonies, and I suddenly found myself singing the harmonies and unison songs and thoroughly enjoying it. The evenings are good fun and I love it when we are working on a piece for a few weeks and then it all comes together. One of the highlights of the last year has been singing in the church in Cranbrook, it was so atmospheric and it felt good singing to an audience who enjoyed what we did.
I look forward to every Wednesday…
Early 2018 I lost my soulmate of 57 years as we had been together since our late teenage years. For months I was at a loss sitting at home thinking that there has to be much more to life that this. Fortunately an old friend of mine, Nigel, moved back to Cranbrook just before Christmas, after being away for a number of years. During our chats he informed me that he had been a member of a choir in Tunbridge Wells and that he enjoyed singing, plus it made him feel uplifted.
It was about this time he got to hear about a new choir about to be formed in Cranbrook and suggested to me about giving the choir a go. I told him I have never sung before, not even in the bath, he said you will enjoy it, that's when he persuaded me to go along to the opening of the choir.
We duly attended the inaugural meeting of the choir in 2019 and I must admit it, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, so much so that I have been a regular at our Wednesday evenings ever since.
I look forward to every Wednesday to meet up with like-minded folk who enjoy singing, and the chats and laughter before and after rehearsal before we head off home.
…really, really good fun!
I have sung with other choirs, but Compass is very different as the emphasis is more on enjoying singing, rather than getting everything 100% correct. Frances is a brilliant accompanist and Ginger is so engaging that rehearsals are not a chore but really, really good fun!
